Stupor Mundi - Master Print edition
Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor and king of Germany and Italy was a man of extraordinary culture, energy, and ability. His contemporaries called him stupor mundi (“the wonder of the world”), and many historians consider him Europe’s first modern ruler. The kingdom Frederick established in Sicily and southern Italy ran on an efficient bureaucracy similar to modern, centrally governed kingdoms.
In Stupor Mundi, you play as a vassal of Frederick II, summoning allies from around the Mediterranean, building structures in your castle, and promoting specialists to strengthen your kingdom. Upgrade your castles to house more allies, store resources, and manage action cards more effectively. With a clever card-selection system, you must carefully choose actions that can trigger edicts affecting Frederick’s palace and the rewards from your allies. Will you remain loyal to the Emperor or support independent allies? Watch your opponents, form alliances, or strike out on your own when tensions rise…
The Master print edition also contains the Miracula expansion, which consists of two modules that you can add and combine at will to your game of Stupor Mundi:
1. The Postponed Crusade: In this module, Pope Honorius III is pushing Frederick II to organize a crusade. You will add a number of Crusade boards to your game, which will all allow you to perform special actions that replace one of the 5 main actions of the game. These will benefit you greatly, but be careful: if you or other players abuse these actions, their advantages will greatly diminish as the game progresses …
2. The Imperial Projects: In this module, Frederick II call upon his vassals to construct awe-inspiring castles across his realm. You will have to challenge yourself to achieve special building conditions, but adding Imperial structures to your castle will wield you great rewards a the end of the game.
